PRESTON PEAK

COMPOSER

About

Preston Peak (b. 1998) is passionate about studying music’s origins, innovations, cultural deviations and similarities, and ultimately making music that he loves. Originally attending Texas A&M university, Preston’s passions for composition allowed him to begin composing as a hobby for solo piano and smaller chamber ensembles for his friends to perform. To be a composer is to constantly be learning, and in composing for various ensembles and lesser known instruments/styles, Preston is still piecing together his style which takes inspiration from both the story-telling sounds of the Romantic Era and the innovative & experimental nature of modern classical music. He is currently studying under Saad Haddad, and he especially loves the works of Chopin, Shostakovich, Ravel, Tchaikovsky, John Williams, Joe Hisaishi, Hans Zimmer, and Toby Fox.

Preston is early in his career, and has yet to have a piece premiered. However, along his journey, he found himself composing for video games as well as performing ensembles. This medium is a wonderful realm where diversity of genre, instrumentation, culture, and ideas is encouraged. His most recent project includes an original soundtrack for a game which incorporates latin-jazz, orchestral, and electronic elements to provide subtle ambience. Preston will have a solo piano piece premiered at the Altered Bodies Concert in Chicago in 2025, hosted by composer and pianist, Matthew Mason. Additionally, in the summer of 2025, Preston will be composing for the Texas New Music Festival to premier three pieces.

Preston is still early in his journey, but continues to study music in Houston, Texas, where he is based with his wonderful fiancée, Hailey.

Miniatures for Piano (2024)

SPOTIFY | APPLE MUSIC | YOUTUBE

This album was carefully composed in a neo-classical and minimal style with emphasis on depicting the object of the miniature titles. Each piece takes on an abstract sound but are also interconnected with the others. I also enjoy not taking any particular work too seriously, so I hope listeners can find a touch of my humor in the album. Thanks for listening!

As the holidays approach, I composed this short piano album dedicated to winter. The album was composed with a variety of compositional styles ranging from minimalist-ambient, to contemporary neo-classical, to traditional classical. Ludovico Einaudi, Frédéric Chopin, and works from Kensuke Ushio were a few of my compositional influences. The final piece of the album, 'Winter Rain', specifically took influence from Frédéric Chopin's Prelude no. 15 in D major - 'Raindrop Prelude'.

I wanted these pieces to reflect the warm feelings associated with winter, despite it being the coldest of seasons. I hope you enjoy, and thanks for listening.

1 Intro (Nov) / 2 Winter Blues / 3 Prelude (Dec) / 4 Frost / 5 Prelude (Jan) / 6 Shooting Star / 7 Improv (Feb) / 8 Footprints in the Snow / 9 Winter Rain

Dream Home Designer VR (OST)

SPOTIFY | APPLE MUSIC | YOUTUBE

This album is the original soundtrack for Dream Home Designer (VR) which will be available on Steam soon! The tracks utilize acoustic and electronic elements to create a serene and fun atmosphere as the player builds his or her dream home.

Inspiration for much of the music was Animal Crossing, however, I aimed to use less 'goofy' or 'quirky' instruments, and more natural acoustic instruments. These include: felt piano, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, saxophone, pizzicato cello and double bass, old school electric piano sounds, traditional drums, and latin jazz rhythms.

Thank you for listening if you do!
