for 2 violins, 2 violas, 2 violoncellos, piano and harp
Premiere Performance: This work has not been premiered. Please inquire for details.
Program Notes: Lost in Space and Time creates an ethereal tone as a growing sense of dread, apathy, loneliness, and chaos grows. The empty darkness of space surrounds you, precious time escapes you, and the clock ticks foreshadowing the end. The use of violin harmonics, pizzicato, and sul ponticello bowing furthers the ominous atmosphere, while the pianist is instructed to improvise creating chaos unique to each performance.Â
By the end, the chaos crescendos and recedes, leaving only isolation while muted plucks of the harp depict time running out on our clock. Despite the pessimistic and rather morbid story that I have described, I do hope the listener can find a sense of beauty and peace amidst the piece.
